Content Replication
The Content Replication feature allows Visual Experience Engine administrators to replicate all content from the Staging environment to the Production environment. This feature provides a streamlined way to manage and deploy content updates across environments.
Overview
The Replication feature enables you to:
- Replicate Now: Immediately sync all content from Staging to Production
- Schedule Replications: Set up future replications to run automatically
- View History: Track all past and scheduled replications
- Monitor Status: Get real-time updates on replication progress
Accessing the Replication Feature
- Log into the Visual Experience Engine as an administrator
- Look for the "Replication" menu item in the left sidebar
- Click on "Replication" to access the replication dashboard
Using Replication
Immediate Replication
To replicate content immediately from Staging to Production:
- Navigate to the Replication screen
- Click the "Replicate Now" button
- The system will begin the replication process
- You'll see a status notification showing the progress
- Once complete, you'll receive a success or failure notification
Scheduling Replications
To schedule a replication for future execution:
- On the Replication screen, look for the "Schedule Replication" option
- Select your desired date and time
- Click "Schedule" to add it to the queue
- The scheduled replication will appear in your history log as "Scheduled"
- The system will automatically execute the replication at the specified time
Replication History
The Replication History provides a comprehensive log of all replication activities:
History Details
Each replication entry includes:
- Date and Time: When the replication occurred
- Source Environment: Staging
- Destination Environment: Production
- Status: Current state of the replication
- In Progress: Replication is currently running
- Completed: Replication finished successfully
- Failed: Replication encountered an error
- Scheduled: Replication is queued for future execution
Filtering History
You can filter the replication history by:
- Date Range: View replications from specific time periods
- Status: Filter by completion status (Completed, Failed, In Progress, Scheduled)
- Sort Order: Arrange by date (newest or oldest first)
Status Notifications
The system provides real-time notifications for replication activities:
Success Notifications
- Replication Completed Successfully
- All content has been successfully replicated from Staging to Production
- The history log is updated with completion details
Error Notifications
- Replication Failed
- Error details are displayed in the notification
- Failed replications are logged in the history with error information
- You can retry failed replications
Progress Updates
- Replication In Progress
- Real-time status updates during the replication process
- Estimated completion time (when available)
Best Practices
Before Replication
- Review Content: Ensure all content in Staging is ready for production
- Check Dependencies: Verify that all required assets and configurations are in place
- Backup Production: Consider creating a backup before major replications
- Schedule During Off-Peak Hours: For large replications, schedule during low-traffic periods
During Replication
- Monitor Progress: Keep an eye on the status notifications
- Avoid Interruptions: Don't perform other major content operations during replication
- Check History: Review the history log for any previous issues
After Replication
- Verify Content: Check that all content appears correctly in Production
- Test Functionality: Ensure all features work as expected
- Update Documentation: Keep records of what was replicated and when
Troubleshooting
Common Issues
Replication Stuck in "In Progress" Status
- Symptom: Replication shows "In Progress" for an extended period
- Solution: Contact your system administrator to check the replication process
- Prevention: Monitor replication history for patterns
Scheduled Replications Not Executing
- Symptom: Scheduled replications don't run at the specified time
- Solution: Check system time and replication service status
- Alternative: Use immediate replication as a workaround
Missing Replication Records
- Symptom: Replication history entries disappear
- Solution: Check with your administrator about system logs
- Prevention: Take screenshots of important replication events
Getting Help
If you encounter issues with the replication feature:
- Check the History Log: Review recent replications for error patterns
- Contact Support: Reach out to your Visual Experience Engine administrator
- Document the Issue: Note the exact time, error messages, and steps taken
- Check System Status: Verify that both Staging and Production environments are accessible
Security Considerations
- Access Control: Only authorized administrators can access the replication feature
- Audit Trail: All replication activities are logged for compliance
- Environment Isolation: Replication only works from Staging to Production
- Data Integrity: The system ensures data consistency during replication
